Rating ALL the Board Games I Own

Updated: Aug 21, 2022

Board games are such a great group activity for adults. They are fun, oftentimes funny, and challenging too. In the last few years I have been collecting many MANY board games - and so here is my rating of them.

SCORE: 3/10 Complete the sentence in the funniest thing you can while trying to hit your opponent's taste in humor.

This game is a classic, and honestly, I remember playing this one at my first college party in 2015. I knew very little English and didn't understand the political/cultural jokes. Felt kind of miserable. Then when I moved in with my (now) husband, we owned a pack (+the Jew Pack) and played it every time we had guests over. I never liked it. None of the jokes really hit and the games get kind of boring.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Pass. Buy WHAT DO YOU MEME instead.

SCORE: 6.5/10 Find the funniest statement to accompany a famous meme (pictures included). This is SO FUNNY! Gets everyone rioting and invested in the joke. Also, the pictures are hilarious and the statements are well written. Wouldn't play it every day but often enough!

FINAL THOUGHTS: This game is great times.

SCORE: 7/10

As a Jew I was stunned when asked "do you want to play secret Hitler?, Oh don't worry, it was invented by children of Holocaust Survivors so it's okay to call it like that".

Honestly - so FUN! It is similar to "secret werewolf" in the sense that you get a secret role with everyone suspecting each other and watching your every move. But, because of the history, calling each other "fascists" is funny.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Love for a group, extra bonus if you are not Jewish.

**ADULT VERSION

SCORE: 4.5/10

Get a funny/embarrassing/sexual statement and try to draw it on a whiteboard for the next person to guess.

It's just okay. Definitely not my go-to. Drawing is funny but most people are just not good at it. And, there is never a winner really.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Others are better.

SCORE: 8/10

Strategize your resources while building an empire and claim victory in various ways. Not a game for dumb people. I played this one time on a fourth of July weekend and added it to my Amazon cart that same day. It's a great game, has a lot of strategy behind it and the competition between people get's everyone invested!

The only downside is that it is a little complicated and takes a good 40 min per game. FINAL THOUGHTS: THIS IS A MUST!

SCORE: 9.5/10

How many random words can you connect using a one-word clue?

Minimum 4 participants. This game is always perfect for any age at any time - with the company of alcohol or sober. It is the perfect activity to break the ice or to end a night on a good note. It is fast too (10-15 min per game). I also love how different it is every time, and it makes my brain works hard. This is also a great way for couples to pair and use inside jokes/terminology. The only downside is that this is for English speakers only.

FINAL THOUGHTS: if you want to have one game in your house, let it be codenames.

SCORE: 8/10

Good ol'Jenga! There is no age limit, no language barrier, and no rules! It's great to engage with while drinking, or while having a conversation. It's fun and exciting but also requires some focus and it does get scary! FYI, the fake Jenga works just as well and is often half the price... FINAL THOUGHTS: Good to have especially when having people from different age groups that speak different languages together.

SCORE: 5/10 The OG card game is for players to match colors and numbers to finish all cards in hand. And do not forget to announce it when you're down to your last card!

I've been playing it for years and years as a kid and now as an adult. It's fast and is fun but now feels kind of repetitive and boring. This one too has no language barrier.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Will always have a place in my heart.

SCORE: 5.5/10

Similar to "cards against humanity" - each player picks the best line to match the "that's what she said" joke. All jokes are sexual. You can only play this one while drinking. It's a good party game for couples and young people but this too gets old quickly.

FINAL THOUGHTS: liked it more before I got married. *note - I don't own this one but my best friend does.
